Sleep Disorders

Sleep disorders are conditions that disrupt a person's usual sleeping patterns, such as difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep, or experiencing poor sleep quality. Common sleep disorders include insomnia, sleep apnea, restless legs syndrome, and narcolepsy. These conditions can have a significant impact on a person's overall health and well-being, leading to issues such as daytime fatigue, difficulty concentrating, mood disturbances and resulting in a range of issues affecting physical health. Chronic sleep deprivation can weaken the immune system, increase the risk of developing conditions like diabetes and heart disease, and impair cognitive function. Furthermore, the persistent exhaustion and irritability that often accompany sleep disorders can strain relationships and diminish quality of life.

Anyone can be affected by sleep disorders and it is important for them to be properly identified and addressed. Certain career fields, especially those with shift work and high levels of chronic stress, as well as certain seasons in life can make someone particularly vulnerable to sleep disorders.

Neurofeedback for Sleep Disorders

The goal of neurofeedback for sleep disorders is to help clients achieve restorative and healthy sleep patterns. Sleep is absolutely vital to the brain’s ability to organize, process information, engage in proper maintenance, and promote healing. If a client is experiencing issues around sleep, Heart Matters will often begin with addressing that, as better sleep will allow the brain to be more responsive to additional neurofeedback training in other areas.

Neurofeedback aims to regulate abnormal brain patterns contributing to disrupted sleep cycles, and by helping the brain achieve a more balanced state, many clients have reported experiencing more average hours of sleep per night, as well as sleep that is less disrupted, and of a higher quality.
