HeartMath

Mindfulness, calm, and resilience in the palm of your hand

While living in a stressful world, wouldn’t it be great to have every tool possible to help you navigate it? Calming and getting your natural body systems to regulate and work for the benefit of a healthier you is possible with practice.

That is what Heartmath can do when you engage with it daily. It teaches you how to move your body into normal patterns of a regulated heart rate and nervous system, and to be more present in your emotions, learning mindfulness as a state of being.

How it helps

HeartMath is a biofeedback program designed to teach you simple techniques to help you connect with your heart to manage stress and learn to regulate your thoughts and emotions. HeartMath provides you the tools needed to shift from stress, dysregulation and incoherence to self-regulation, coherence and resilience. The most common symptom HeartMath targets effectively is anxiety.

  • HeartMath is a biofeedback device available for purchase that is compatible with iPhone and Android. The app and device will guide you through exercises while giving you real time feedback on your heart rate etc. Practicing with this information daily will help you gain mastery over many of the physical processes that contribute to anxiety and other conditions.

  • Neurofeedback is biofeedback for the brain, guided by EEG data. Like the brain, the heart regulates electrical impulses of the body served by the nervous system. The heart has its own system of creating emotions and chemicals through our bodies by blood to keep us alive. These two systems need to work in coherence for wholeness in mind, body and spirit. When stress accumulates the body and brain go into coping strategies and will stop talking to each other which can create anxiety, fatigue, physical pain, etc. This is why we need to work on both together. The brain creates new nerve cells when we move to a calmer, healthier state. These cells create new neural pathways that can be tapped into easier to regulate faster into a calm state. If we regulate one but have not practiced the other, the results will be harder to keep long term.

  • Absolutely!

For those to whom it has been recommended, we can connect you to a HeartMath Certified Professional who will educate you on how the device and app work, the science behind it, and how you will learn the mindset and breathing techniques that are beneficial to get the most out of the therapy. It will be highly recommended to add this to a daily routine at home for 15 minutes outside of doing neurofeedback training twice a week.
