What makes Heart Matters neurofeedback exceptional?

Our care

We believe that brain health is foundational. However, change and growth best happen in the context of caring relationships. At Heart Matters we are invested in both. Our clients consistently tell us that they sense the difference when they enter our offices. They know they are not just another client, but that our therapists and technicians are deeply committed to meeting them where they’re at, helping them gain the tools to overcome, and celebrating their successes with them.

Our results

Heart Matters has dedicated significant resources to equipment, training, and networking to be able to offer exceptional neurofeedback services to our communities. Our services have transformed numerous lives and improved the physical, emotional, mental, and relational health of those who have sought our care. Most local neurofeedback providers only offer surface (traditional) neurofeedback services, a modality that can often require 80-150 sessions. With the LORETA neurofeedback technology that Heart Matters specializes in, most of our clients reach their goals within 30-50 sessions. With an 85% or greater success rate of symptom reduction or elimination for our clients, as well as enhanced overall well-being, you can be confident that Heart Matters neurofeedback will be a powerful and productive investment in your health.

Experience and consultation with top experts

In addition to being a licensed professional counselor, the clinical director of Heart Matters, Mike Pinkston, is extensively trained in neuroscience. Mike holds multiple industry certifications, including the QEEG-DL, which puts him among the elite neurofeedback QEEG analysts in the country. Mike also serves as an executive board member of the IQCB, the organization that sets the standards for education and qualifications for performing QEEG internationally. He maintains a large network of professional relationships and regularly consults with pioneers and experts in the fields of neuroscience and neurofeedback, as well as researchers and specialists in ADHD, head injuries, seizure disorders, dementia, and more. Included in our local consultation network are expert functional medicine doctors.

Clients of Heart Matters not only benefit from our knowledge and years of experience, but also the expertise of some of the top professionals in the world.

Number of QEEGs

Heart Matters provides more frequent QEEG assessments in the course of a client’s treatment than any other neurofeedback provider in Colorado. After every five training sessions, another QEEG is recorded and analyzed, then compared to the previous QEEGs. This supplies updated information as the brain is learning and changing as a result of the training, and it allows for the timely adjustment of training protocols to progress through all the areas of brain dysregulation. These regular assessments maximize the efficacy of the training, respecting the client’s investment of time and finances.

Our access

We know that life is busy and that making an investment in yourself can be hard to do. Heart Matters has made our neurofeedback services available in both Colorado Springs, CO as well as in Woodland Park, CO to increase access in our communities. Both offices also offer several evening appointments for after work or after school sessions, as well as Saturday appointments in Colorado Springs.

swLORETA neurofeedback and surface neurofeedback

Traditional neurofeedback, often called surface neurofeedback, targets a few locations in the brain’s cortex (surface). This is the form of neurofeedback that has been practiced since the 1960s and it can be very effective when used by skilled practitioners for treating certain conditions.

However, as the field of neuroscience has continued to rapidly advance, technology now allows professionals to do significantly more for the brain by using swLORETA neurofeedback. This technology allows us to “see” past the cortex and into the deeper brain structures, addressing the sources of dysregulation within the brain versus traditional neurofeedback which treats the surface anomalies. It is a whole brain network approach.
Whereas surface neurofeedback can train just a few locations at a time, swLORETA can train a thousand locations simultaneously, 182 times every second, all without conscious effort from the client. swLORETA also addresses how the different regions of the brain communicate with each other. It is gentler on the brain, is more comprehensive, and works faster with greater efficacy. This allows neurofeedback goals to be met in fewer sessions than what surface neurofeedback alone requires.

Only a small fraction of neurofeedback providers in the United States are trained in and can provide swLORETA. Heart Matters has practiced swLORETA neurofeedback longer than any practitioners in Colorado Springs and the greater Metro area. At Heart Matters, we are equipped to offer clients both surface and swLORETA neurofeedback treatment in response to their unique needs.
